Lizzie Majchrzak — Service Dog Training Specialist

“At 12 years old, I developed a rare autoimmune disorder that changed my life. Working with a service dog didn’t just help me manage my condition — it showed me what was possible. That experience is why I do this work. When you come to me, I’m not just your trainer. I’m someone who has been where you are.”

Lizzie leads all service dog training at Clever Canine. Her personal experience with service dogs gives her a perspective that goes far beyond technique — she understands the daily challenges, the emotional weight, and the profound difference the right dog can make in a person’s life.

How It Works

Our Approach to Service Dog Training

Service dog training is not a product you purchase. It’s a lifelong partnership you build — between you, your dog, and us. Here’s how we build it together.

1
Service Dog Application — No Cost, No Obligation
Everything starts with a short application that helps us understand your situation and whether we can help. If we can, we schedule a free discovery call to learn more about your needs. If we’re not the right fit, we don’t leave you empty-handed — we do our best to connect you with resources and organizations who may be able to help.
2
Custom Training Plan Built Around You
Everything we learn in the discovery call shapes your dog’s training plan. We build it around your specific disability, your daily life, and the tasks that will make the most real-world difference. If you don’t yet have a dog, we can help guide you in finding and selecting the right one.
3
Training (12–24 Months) & a Lifelong Partnership
The active training phase typically takes 12–24 months, building skills progressively as your dog matures. But the partnership doesn’t end there. We are with you for the long haul — questions, new challenges, behavior that needs refreshing — whatever comes up, we’re here.
4
Public Access Training & Lifelong Advocacy
Public access training is woven throughout the entire program — your dog learns to perform reliably in stores, restaurants, medical facilities, and transportation. And as part of our lifelong partnership, we remain a resource for public access issues, denial of access situations, and anything else that comes up after training is complete. You are never on your own.
Know Your Rights

The service dog world is complex. The law is on your side — but knowing how to exercise your rights, and what to do when they’re violated, is something most trainers never address. We do.

This is a rare differentiator — most dog trainers train dogs. We train you, your dog, and prepare you to navigate the world confidently together.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — we train dogs that clients already own or have selected. Not every dog is a good candidate for service dog work (temperament, health, and drive matter), which is something we assess early in our consultation. If your dog is a good fit, we build the training program around them.
Typically 12–24 months, depending on the tasks required, the dog’s age and aptitude, and the complexity of your needs. Service dog training is thorough by necessity — your dog needs to be reliable in all public environments, under all conditions, every time. We don’t rush the process.
Many breeds can become excellent service dogs — it depends more on the individual dog’s temperament, health, and trainability than the breed alone. Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, and Standard Poodles are common choices, but we work with a wide range of breeds. We’ll assess your dog’s suitability during our consultation.
Under the ADA, service dogs in the United States are not required to be certified, registered, or wear a vest. What matters is that the dog is trained to perform specific tasks related to your disability. However, we can discuss voluntary certifications that may be useful in certain situations, and we make sure you understand your rights completely.
Denial of access is illegal in most circumstances under the ADA. We prepare you for these situations before they happen — what to say, how to handle it calmly, and when to escalate. We also connect clients with legal resources and disability advocacy organizations in Michigan who can help if needed.
Training takes place at our facility at 4396 Dixie Hwy #3 in Waterford, MI and in real-world public environments as your dog progresses. Public access training — stores, restaurants, medical facilities, transportation — is an essential part of service dog preparation. We train where life actually happens.
