Our Story: How It All Started
Before helping families transform their relationships with their dogs, my life looked completely different.
I was just a mom of 9 amazing kids (5 adopted from foster care), living what seemed like a pretty normal life... until one day, everything changed.
My daughter Lizzie, at just 12 years old, developed a rare autoimmune disorder that turned our world upside down.
I still remember that gut-wrenching feeling—sitting in the hospital, thinking I wasn't going to survive this.
Not just emotionally, but physically. I needed help with basic day-to-day tasks. Our family needed solutions, and fast.
That's when we discovered the incredible impact a service dog could have on Lizzie's life.
While working with a renowned service dog trainer, Lizzie discovered she had an extraordinary gift for training dogs. And I... well, I discovered something too.
I realized that finding RELIABLE dog training information was like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
The internet was (and still is) flooded with all kinds of theories and training styles... and most of them just don't work in real life.
You know what I mean?
All those "one-size-fits-all" approaches... Those "guaranteed quick fixes"... Those "just do this ONE thing" solutions... They're all BS.
The Truth About Dog Training
After working with countless dogs, here's what I learned:
Every dog is different. Every family is different. Every situation is different.
That's why having just ONE training method is like trying to build a house with nothing but a hammer. You need a complete toolbox of training methods to create real, lasting changes.
I'll never forget one of our first clients—he had a reactive German Shepherd that was so challenging, the owner couldn't even take him for walks anymore. Can you imagine? Being trapped in your own home because your dog loses its mind over every little thing outside?
But using our unique approach (what we now call the Canine Connection Compass), we helped transform that dog into a calm, confident companion.
Those words hit me hard. Because that's exactly how I felt when we first started this journey with Lizzie's service dog.
