Who Canine Crossovers Is For

Prerequisite Must have successfully completed Agility Fundamentals (Run, Jump, Conquer) or a comparable Wednesday agility class, or have instructor approval.

You've got the basics down. Your dog knows how to jump, tunnel, and take direction. Now you're ready to string it all together — longer sequences, more complex handling, and the genuine rush of running full agility courses together.

Canine Crossovers is the right class if:

  • You've completed Agility Fundamentals and want to keep the momentum going
  • You're ready to move beyond individual obstacles and into real course work
  • You want to master front crosses, rear crosses, and blind crosses
  • You're curious about competition but want to experience it without pressure first
  • You want deeper teamwork with your dog through more demanding challenges
  • You're simply hooked on agility and want more
This class introduces competitive elements — but staying recreational is completely welcome. The goal is fun progression at whatever pace works for you and your dog.

More than just tricks

Why Level Two Is Where It Gets Really Good

The first class showed you what agility could be. Canine Crossovers is where the real magic happens — when obstacle skills combine into flowing teamwork and you stop thinking about individual cues and start reading the course together.

🔗
True Teamwork on Course
Handling crosses require split-second timing and mutual trust. The communication you develop in Canine Crossovers is a level above anything you built in Agility Fundamentals — and you'll feel it immediately.
🧩
Course Reading & Strategy
You'll start seeing sequences the way competitive handlers do — reading the flow, choosing your handling approach, and making decisions mid-run. It's a whole new layer of the sport.
🚀
Speed and Efficiency
Crosses let your dog take the most direct, fastest path through a sequence. You'll see your runs get smoother, faster, and more satisfying as handling technique improves.
🏟️
A Taste of Competition
Canine Crossovers introduces competitive elements in a low-pressure environment. You'll experience the structure of real agility without the nerves of a trial — and many teams discover they want to go further.
The curriculum

What You'll Work On in Class

Canine Crossovers builds directly on Agility Fundamentals — adding handling technique, sequence complexity, and full-course experience that will transform how you and your dog move together.

Front Crosses

Master the front cross — the handler moves in front of the dog to change direction. Perfectly timed, it's the smoothest, fastest way to redirect your dog on course.

Rear Crosses

Execute rear crosses with precision — the handler crosses behind the dog. Essential for tight turns where you can't get ahead, and a key tool in every agility handler's toolkit.

Blind Crosses

Learn blind crosses — where the handler turns their back to switch sides. Fast and efficient when executed well, requiring confidence from both handler and dog.

Complex Sequence Combinations

String obstacles together into challenging multi-element sequences — developing the flow, timing, and communication needed to navigate courses smoothly and efficiently.

Full Course Runs

Experience the thrill of running complete agility courses — putting everything together from start to finish. This is where training becomes the sport.

Competitive Elements

Introduction to competition structure, rules, and course strategy — so you understand what competitive agility looks like and whether it's a path you want to explore.

What Metro Detroit families are saying

Real Dogs. Real Families. Real Results.

★★★★★

"I honestly had my doubts that she would ever be able to go for a walk with us, stop barking at strangers, or basically listen to us in general — but they proved me wrong. We got our life back and we are now very proud parents. Best money I ever spent."

Jenn B.
German Shepherd · Oakland County
★★★★★

"This is the first time we've left a training and been able to see that okay, this is actually working this time. We have tools, we have ways to manage him. It's been unlike any other experience we've had thus far."

Duke's owner
Australian Shepherd · Metro Detroit
★★★★★

"They give the training more to you than the dog — they teach you with your dog. It's definitely worth at least having the conversation at a free discovery session. I have seen results and we are only halfway through."

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — completion of Agility Fundamentals (Run, Jump, Conquer), a comparable Wednesday agility class, or instructor approval is a genuine requirement. Canine Crossovers picks up where Agility Fundamentals left off. Dogs that haven't established obstacle confidence and basic handler communication will struggle with the handling moves introduced in this class, and it isn't fair to the other teams working at this level. Not sure if you qualify? Book a free discovery call and we'll give you an honest assessment.
These are the three fundamental handling maneuvers in agility. A front cross is when the handler moves in front of the dog and switches sides to redirect them — smooth and fast when timed well. A rear cross is when the handler crosses behind the dog to change direction — useful when you can't get ahead. A blind cross is when the handler turns their back to the dog while switching sides — the fastest of the three but requires solid trust. You'll learn all three in Canine Crossovers, starting with the one that fits your team best.
Not at all. Canine Crossovers introduces competitive elements — course structure, handling strategy, full runs — but staying recreational is completely fine. Many families take this class purely for the fun of it and have no interest in trials. Others discover they're ready to compete. Both outcomes are great. The class is designed to support wherever you want to go.
Yes — students can continue for additional rounds as space allows. Many teams find that a second or third round is where things really click. The sequences get more complex and your handling options expand as you repeat the class with more experience under your belt. Your trainer will help you decide whether continuing, exploring competition, or taking a different next step is the right call for your team.
It depends on the level of reactivity. Canine Crossovers involves working in close proximity to other dogs — which is excellent for building impulse control, but requires that your dog can be managed safely. If your dog had occasional moments in Agility Fundamentals but generally held it together, you're likely fine. If reactivity was a consistent challenge, an honest conversation with your trainer before enrolling is a good idea. Book a free discovery call and describe what you're seeing.
